Who We Are
Meet a Need. Donate Stuff.
DonorsResource.org connects individuals and corporate donors who want to give in-kind donations (non-monetary) to nonprofit organizations that need them. Our message is simple: Meet a Need. Donate Stuff.
DonorsResource.org uses a simple, proven model of giving that is ideal for both individuals and corporations. Nonprofits also benefit greatly from DonorsResource.org by conserving their time and resources, and by using the simple website to claim needed items. They, in turn, can become donors when passing along items they can’t use.
DonorsResource.org features an easy to use, powerful search engine that allows the end user to find a nonprofit by cause, category, zip code or need. Users enter in the items they have to donate, enter their contact information and are soon contacted by a certified nonprofit to arrange an appointment for collection.
There are many organizations that make connections around funding and volunteer opportunities. DonorsResource.org focuses on actual items. By sharing, we can reduce the amount of needed items being stacked and forgotten in basements, garages and, much worse, our landfills. Together, we can all make a difference.
DonorsResource.org is a registered trademark of Sisters of the Community, (SOC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded December of 2005 by sisters, Deborah Waggoner and Della Rae.
There is more than enough to go around. What can you pay forward?
Our History
December of 2005 my sister, Deborah Waggoner and I formed Sisters of the Community (SOC), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that distributed household goods to those in need. Arm in arm we grew SOC. Then board member, Theresa O’Heron dedicated many hours writing the text for our first brochure, tightening up our business plan and she coined “One Community, One People.”
Craig Spencer designed the SOC website and the logo which remains a stroke of genius and makes me happy every time I see it.
After distributing 20,000 household goods within 18 months an online solution was realized.
March of 2007 DonorsResource.org, a registered trademark of SOC (version 1.0) was launched as an online directory that allows the end user to easily find nonprofit organizations by zip code, cause supported and items needed.
Craig Spencer also designed the logo and the original website. Richard Navarette of Austin, Texas built the data base that was generously funded by Tom and Carol Sargent.
April of 2008 through collaboration with Lake Oswego Media, the virtual warehouse (version 2.0) was launched. Within the first 11 months 265 nonprofits registered and 5,000 items claimed. We remain grateful to Lake Oswego Media for their design and implementation of this version.
June of 2009 TimeandStuff.org, also a registered trademark of Sisters of the Community and an online collaboration with HandsOn Greater Portland, a local affiliate of a national nonprofit organization was formed.
September 2009 Donorsresource.org reviewed the effectiveness and functionality of the current model of giving. Based on the feedback we received and our commitment to our mission to serve our community, and with engineering from Dan Milliron, we built version 2.8: an easier, more sustainable way to connect nonprofit organizations and donors.
December 2010 DonorsResource.org launched the return of the virtual warehouse (version 3.0), now efficient and user friendly allowing the end user to post donations that are automatically matched with nonprofit organizations in need.
So many people have been instrumental with the development and history of DonorsResource.org and for the record; it takes more than a village!
Paying it forward, Della Rae, Founder
