First Year Success – Youth Service Learning
During the first year of the program, we realized that student service learning is the real value DonorsResouces.org provides to the community.
Since its inception in March of 2011, students have volunteered approximately 800 hours of hands-on time and helped connect over 1,452 items with nonprofits in need.
In addition to the value to the community, the 800 hours of youth service learning enhanced our nonprofit in the following ways:
- Redesigned and launch of an updated website
- Increased visibility, traffic and donations on our website by 30%
- Social media vehicles: Facebook and Blogger
- Wrote and implemented policies and procedures
- Created and produced of a video that explains the roles of youth in our organization

2012 Goals
- Raise $175,000 in funding to expand our youth service learning program to one additional high school that does not have programs that can provide the “Cradle to Career” methods we use. The funding will also allow us to:
- Develop a sustainable business model to make the program available outside the Portland area.
- Formalize our youth program that encourage learning, emphasize personal responsibility and service to the community so they are easier to expand in the future.
- Train, coordinate and manage the connection of youth with other nonprofit internship opportunities.
- Organize 500 hours of youth participation and service learning hours for the Reuse Connex 2012 National convention being held in Portland, OR October 18-20 2012
